The Almost Photo Virtual Walk
Many of us that did not or could not get to San Francisco this weekend opted for the virtual photo walk via Shutter Sisters (link in sidebar). What a great idea! So off I go downtown with my roommies daughter along for the trip. She needed a break from her 3 year old so we left him with my roommate. Plus she had business downtown anyway. Sounds great so far, no wasted gas, get things done, win win situation.
I have my trusty Oly C3000, 2 sets of batteries, a full bottle of Xanax and a liter of cold water, I’m good to go. As we arrive downtown the main street is blocked due to a street fair, this just keeps getting better my the minute. Following the directions of the local police we even find a parking space on one of the side streets.
Out of the car the first thing I want to do is start snapping pictures. Just a few steps from the car I snap this photo:

Now it really starts to get good the local police show up with their special event trailer and motorcycle unit. Naturally I want pictures of all of this.
Then it happens, my camera shuts off by itself. Franticly I’m digging around in my purse for the back up batteries as all these great shots are being missed. Load the backup batteries turn on the power and……………. and………………….. absolutely nothing happens!
Enough already!!! I get the point, this is not to be, at least not today. Without fail the inevitable anxiety of the situation kicks in full force. I beat a disappointed hasty retreat to the car head for home.

I hope you just need a new set of batteries and don’t have a malfunction with your camera.
I was really looking forward to the virtual walk. Oh well, I am sure it happened to Ansel Adams as well. He climbs up a 300 foot cliff, wiggles out onto a narrow 30 feet ledge, manages to set up his tripod only to find he doesn’t have a bloody plate with him.
I hope your camera treats you better next time. The shot that you did get is lovely.
I’m in photography withdrawal myself as my trusty Pentax Optio was knocked off a table at VBS on July 8th and has yet to come back from the shop. With luck, I’ll get it back early next week in time to travel to Boston for my sister’s wedding. If not, I am free from the feeling that I am missing some great pic somewhere while being Matron of Honor and shepherding the two flower girls (my daughters).
