12 Days Later

September 17, 2009 Arlene Leave a comment

My head is still spinning. 12 days is how long it took to pack, move out and move in. That includes cleaning both places. I take credit for absolutely none of it.  The kids did everything.

There was only a glitch or two all beyond our control. The water heater quit the day we moved in and it took Time Warner a week to get our internet and TV up and running. The hot water problem was fixed the next morning. Somewhere in the middle of all the insanity my main PC monitor up and quit forever. The Acer replacement is a wide screen, the bios on my system is so outdated I have to use the acer in the 1:1 mode. Time for a new motherboard.

I haven’t had much time for pictures, the only one I have today is a snap of my Toshiba mini taken by LED light.

Almost There

The old house is almost empty. All that remains are the computers, some bedding and the big stuff that will go on the U-Haul. We spent the afternoon at the Laundromat washing drying and a lot of waiting.

Waiting is always a good time to experiment with a camera. This photo was taken with a custom color profile, 1/20 sec (gotta love IS) f 3.2 ISO 100.

Still Moving

Tuesday morning I was over at the new place waiting for the power company to show up and turn on the power. Someone had to be there so they could bleed the gas lines and be sure there were no leaks. Naturally they never commit to a time, not even morning or afternoon. I brought the largest container of coffee I had and settled in for a long wait at 8:30 AM. Luck was smiling on me that day and I was on my way back to the old place by 10:30 (AM). The water heater would not light, my landlord is having it fixed. Everything else worked properly.

Back at the ranch my roommate signed for the delivery on my netbook which I opened and set up the second I was back there. It works great, I can us it for almost everything I need to do just about anywhere. 9 hour battery life per charge goes a long way. Once I turned off all the annoying Microsoft security stuff and installed my favorite anti-virus I was even happier. Next thing to go was IE7, Firefox is my favorite followed by Opera.

With the help of the kids we have managed to get about half out stuff moved. I also managed to lock myself out of the new place once already. My landlord is still looking for keys for two of the locks on the second entry door. I locked the wrong lock and closed the door. One of the boys managed to break in with a pocket knife. That lock will be replaced with a deadbolt in a day or two.

One thing I am going to miss is all the police action in front of my house. They were right out front again last evening. I think they are getting used to me and my camera. They didn’t even block my driveway this time!
