Midweek Stuff

July 16, 2009 Arlene Leave a comment

Tonight it was The Allman Brothers from 2003 at The Beacon Theater courtesy of my local PBS station. Having had the pleasure of seeing this band live in person many times over the past 40 years in their many incarnations these guys always rock. Their touring line up for 09 is one of the best in recent history. I’m tempted to catch them at the art center next month but I don’t do so well in crowds these days, I guess I’ll pass.

Hmmm, the portrait project turned out to be a snapshot of me by me taken in the car today while I waited for my roommate at the clinic. It’s not like anyone is gonna frame it or anything as long as they know what I look like once I clear customs that is all that matters.

My “cheap sunglasses” arrived a few days early. 10 AM yesterday morning to be exact. The hard-shell zipper case was an added plus.

Cheap Sunglasses

July 15, 2009 Arlene 1 comment

Well I watched The Devil Wears Prada (movies on demand) and then ZZ Top (Storytellers). With all that inspiration something had to happen. I have been promising myself new sunglasses for a long time, now was the time.

Several websites later I found these:

Diesel sunglasses

Eyedocshoppe dot com listed them at $183.99, their price  $116.77 and out of stock.

Disappointed I checked Overstock dot come looking for something a little less expensive. As Luck would have it I found the same style, same brand at $89.99, last 10 pair marked down to  $59.99 ea. I had a $20.00 credit from a prior price match guarantee and my final cost was $39.99 plus $2.95 priority mail shipping.

Given the original prices  I think I did rather well for myself.

2 Out Of 3 Ain’t Bad

Here is another of those desk top snaps that I have a habit of using.

maybelline colossal

I’ve been using Maybelline Great Lash mascara for many more years than I care to admit. Great Lash is a favorite of some of the finest makeup artists in the world. I thought if what I was using was good the latest from the same company might just be even better.

So, what’s the deal with Maybelline Colossal Mascara? It STINKS. Not figuratively, it actually smells bad, real bad. Two coats of this stuff and I could smell it all the way to Albany last night. That is about an hour from the time I put it on till I got where I was going.

What is with the people that make this stuff? Do they think nobody cares if it smells bad? I originally wanted the new Stiletto mascara but the reviews I have read say it smells bad too. Oh well, back to Great Lash unless the new version of that smells too.

Now for a couple things that work. Forget the $16.95 Sephora version, the Revlon $2.95 eyelash curler works great.

Rechargeable batteries? the Sanyo eneloop AA’s shown above are among the best there is. The first set of AAA’s I got came free in the remote for my Sanyo TV. I was not about to waste NIMH rechargeable batteries in a remote. My MP3 player takes one AAA and it is good for the whole day.

With or without smelly mascara me and the new batteries for my P&S, the new lens for my DSLR (that I haven’t used yet) and my nicely curled eyelashes will be at the ‘09 Albany Pride Festival this Sunday in Washington Square Park. If the weather holds I should get some nice pictures.
