Yahoo Groups

People often ask me why I no longer get involved in local LGBT activities. I usually tell them that I have been down that rocky road and learned my lesson the hard way.

Recently, against my better judgment and on the advise of a professional, I broke my 3 year silence and rejoined a local Yahoo group. Someone asked a question, no one answered for three days. I answered, I was immediately contradicted by someone else who’s information was years old. My information was current.  Why the hell do I bother? I guess I didn’t learn my lesson the first time. (you can tell I am really p o’d there is no picture today)

WHY I AVOID MORNINGS :
Remember that shinny black police car that was blocking my driveway a few entries ago? Well he got me for speeding Monday morning. Me, little Miss Daydreamer who usually mopes along just below the speed limit, stopping for people, puppies and other assorted critters to cross the street.

I bought some cheap no name gas the other day and the car has been spitting and sputtering along ever since. I’m on my way back from dropping one of the kids off downtown. I had no sleep the night before and I really had no business being behind the wheel (I should have been home sleeping). I’m in third gear and the car starts to cough, there is not another soul or vehicle in sight, so I drop it in second an put the pedal to the metal. Bad idea, at the next traffic light he is sitting directly behind me. The second the light turns green he hits the lights and siren.

Ma’am you were doing 44 on a 35 may I see your licence and registration please. Great the photo on my licence was taken in 1989 and looks nothing like I do now.  The address is wrong as is all the other information on the damn thing. I have to give the man credit, he was nice as could be about the total mismatch of everything on my totally legal New York State drivers licence. He didn’t ask any questions and I didn’t offer any explanation. I ended up with a ticket for 40 in a 35.

On a lighter note, sweet bell pepper seem to be rather plentiful this season. I’ve been planning a pizza with red, green, orange, and yellow peppers, mushrooms, sliced roma tomato’s but I was just to tired to make the dough. I ended up with bottom round strips and most of the other stuff.

Dell & Vista No Wonder I’m Crazy ! ! !

Kids do what kids do, hey they are supposed to do stupid stuff. Yes the kids bought a Dell. It took less than 24 hours for it to develop 114 errors on power up. They call Dell, they are connected to service in India. Despite the language barrier the Dell rep concludes it is a software problem and not covered under warranty. Estimated repair cost: $250.00 plus shipping. The computer cost $419.00. The computer goes back to wherever they bought it from. We learned latter they are an authorized Dell dealer with a contract with Dell for ALL software & hardware problems.

I would have called it a day right then and there took my money and ran. Nope, they took another Dell. So who gets to sort out this disaster? Who else, me. Here is a shot of the monitor one and one half hours into Vista doing its first power up update. The download speed from the Microsoft Vista site was 62k/sec. over broadband.

One hour later it is doing this:

vista-3

Once Vista was happy it took less than half an hour to download, install and configure my favorite antivirus & anti spy ware programs.

Moral of this story:

Dell customer support = a big zero
Windows Vista = Less than a big zero
